🏒 Under 12s - Developing players, building confidence

Two teams. One standard. More opportunity.

Our Under 12s programme is built around a simple belief: young players develop best when they are challenged, supported and given the opportunity to play.

The current U12 age group is players born in 2015 and 2016.

We currently have two U12 teams - Leeds White ⚪️ and Leeds Blue 🔵. Both compete in the U12 North Division 1 at the same level.

While some clubs choose to stream their players into an A team and a B team at U12 level, we take a different approach.

⚡ No A-Team, No B-Team. Just opportunity.

We don't believe that permanently separating children into ability groups at such a young age is the best way to support their development.

By balancing the ability across Leeds White and Leeds Blue, we give more players the opportunity to:

🏒 Play competitive hockey at their best level

⚡ Face challenging opposition regularly

🎯 Develop their skills in meaningful game situations

💪 Build confidence and resilience

🤝 Play alongside and learn from different teammates

The result is two competitive teams, rather than one team at the top and another playing below its potential.

For us, development isn't just about where a player is today - it's about helping them become the best player they can be tomorrow.

🏒 Full-ice hockey

At U12 level, the game moves onto the full ice surface, bringing a new level of speed, space and tactical awareness.

Players change lines every minute on a buzzer, keeping the game fast-paced and ensuring everyone gets regular opportunities to contribute.

It's an exciting stage of development where players begin to put together the skating, passing, shooting and decision-making skills they've developed in their earlier years.

🚫 Non-checking hockey

U12 hockey at Leeds Jr Knights is non-checking, allowing players to concentrate on developing their hockey skills, awareness and game understanding in a safe and supportive environment.

⭐ When can players join U12s?

Players are eligible to play U12 hockey from their 8th birthday.

However, moving up to U12 isn't simply about age. Our coaching staff will assess each player's ability, confidence and safety on the ice before deciding whether they are ready for the demands of full-ice hockey.

Every player develops at their own pace - and we want that progression to be positive, safe and right for the individual.
